In speaking to so many people over the past few days about Perky McCullough, the word “void” was repeatedly used. As in the void that has been created in our community by her passing Saturday morning after losing her battle with cancer. She was 76. To list all of her accomplishments would take two full newspapers and endless days of research to do her any form of justice, but suffice it to say, there have been very few sports, sporting events, community projects and organizations she hasn’t touched in some way. McCullough was “Perky” in demeanour, in attitude, in enthusiasm as well as in name.

Ball Hall to enshrine Staub, Melvin, Cormier and Team Canadaro

“La Grand Orange” was the original face of the Montreal Expos

St. Marys – The original face of the Montreal Expos, the current mastermind of the uprising Milwaukee Brewers, the legendary lefthander from Moncton, New Brunswick, and the reigning gold medalists from the 2011 Pan Am Games will be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame at 11:00am on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012.

The ceremony for Rusty Staub, Doug Melvin, Rheal Cormier and Team Canada (represented by field manager Ernie Whitt, GM Greg Hamilton, and as many players as can be rounded up) will take place on the ceremonial grounds beside the Ball Hall’s museum, located at 386 Church St. South, St. Marys, Ontario, culminating a festival of events that will include a celebrity slo-pitch game on the Thursday evening and a celebrity golf classic on Friday.

Ground breaking Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke passed away at 9:22 AM January 19, 2012 at the University of Utah Hospital from injuries sustained in an accident on the Eagle Superpipe at Park City Mountain Resort on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. She was training for upcoming winter events.
